Connected Horizon

An informative edge that promotes safety

In the vehicle, the Connected Horizon from Bosch provides a dynamic route preview with up-to-the-minute information alongside specific static and topographic data. This includes, for instance, details on danger spots, the tail ends of traffic jams, road signs, speed limits, and the severity of bends. As such, drivers are shown information about the road ahead with plenty of notice, allowing them to adapt their driving to the dynamic conditions in each situation, for example by reducing speed or opting for an alternative route. Consequently, the accident risk is reduced as driving comfort and convenience increase.

How the Connected Horizon works

The Connected Horizon supplies vehicle ECUs with up-to-the-minute route information that can be presented to the driver. A static topographic map, onto which three layers of dynamic data are superimposed, serves as a basis. Data that only change rarely, such as speed limits, make up the first layer.

Data exchange via the cloud

Before the dynamic data become available in the Connected Horizon, they first need to be recorded and consolidated. Data recorded by the vehicle sensors are transferred to a central server infrastructure – such as the Bosch IoT cloud – for this purpose. There, all data are collated and evaluated before being sent to road users for updating their route information.
